The South Dakota high school wrestling tournaments are set for this Thursday, Feb. 27 through Saturday, March 1 for both Class A and Class B.
The 14 boys weight classes were filled by regional qualifiers across the state this past Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22.
Lennox had two wrestlers qualify for State with Ramsey Williams claiming the Region 2A title at 150 pounds on Friday. Williams opened Regions with a win by fall in 1:31 over Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Saxon Kouril. He then defeated Brandon Valley’s Jack Nelson by decision, 11-6, in the semifinals. In the Championship round, Williams won by decision, 4-1, over Vermillion’s Michael Roob to take the Region title and punch his ticket to State.
Also claiming a spot at State was Lennox’s Grant Larson who finished third at 144 pounds. Larson began regions with a win by fall in 24 seconds over Vermillion’s Jordan Springer. In the semi-finals Larson fell to Harrisburg’s Lincoln Peters in 2:44, sending him into the consolation bracket were he won by technical fall, 15-0, in 2:09 over Sioux Falls Washington’s Micah Eidem. In the third/fourth place match, Larson won by forfeit over Yankton’s Joelton Reimnitz-Hahn.
“The team wrestled well at regions, i was very pleased with how much we improved from last year,” said Lennox High School head wrestling coach Matt Hanson.
He is looking forward to watching both Williams and Larson at State.
“My expectations for Williams and Larson at the State tournament is to wrestle tough, physical, fundamentaly sound matches. If they do, when the final whistle is blown they will be successful,” Hanson added.
Also reaching the podium at Regions for the LHS boys were Kedren Fergen who finished fifth at 126 pounds, Jack Aashiem who finished fifth at 165 pounds; Nate Haar who took fifth at 190 pounds, Emory Lefers who took fifth at 215 pounds; Noah Hanson who finished sixth at 132 pounds, and Preston Otte who took sixth at 138 pounds.
The LHS girls also competed in Region 2A action on Thursday, Feb. 20. Despite strong showing, no LHS girl was able to qualify for State.
Jocelyn Thomas earned sixth place at 120 pounds and Rosearia Rohrer took fifth at 145 pounds.

State wrestling action will begin on Thursday, Feb. 27 with first round matches taking place at 10 a.m. at the Summit Arena at the Monument in Rapid City. Quarterfinal matches continue at 4 p.m. On Friday, Feb. 28 1st Round and 2nd Round Consolation matches begin at 9:30 p.m. At 3:30 p.m. semifinals and 3rd Round Consolation matches begin, followed by 4th Round Consolation matches.
On Saturday, March 1 at 10 a.m. places matches begin with Championship matches beginning at 1 p.m.
