Orioles to compete at State A’s

On Tuesday, March 11 the Lennox High School boys’  basketball team took on Mobridge-Pollock in Huron in the 2025 SoDak 16 match-up. 

Lennox build a sizable lead in the game but Mobridge-Pollock fought back to cut the Orioles lead down to six in the final seconds. However, Lennox held strong, securing a 58-51 victory and punching their ticket to the State A Tournament—their first appearance since 2019.

“Our motto all postseason has been to be 1-0 when the buzzer sounds and we did that in this game. We were able to fight through a little bit of adversity throughout the game with some turnovers and missed layups to come through and make some big plays throughout the second half to end up on the right side,” said LHS head boys’ basketball coach, Jacob Hinker. “I am very excited for the boys to be able to experience the state tournament.”

Against Mobridge-Pollock, the Orioles were led by Aiden Hanssen, Tate Gerdes and Teegan Musser, all of whom were in double figures on the night. 

Gerdes went six of 11 from the field and six of seven at the foul line to finish with 18 points. 


Gerdes grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists. Hanssen hit four of seven three point attempts in the game, finishing with 17 points. He also grabbed three rebounds, had one assist and one steal. Musser finished with 11 points, going four of seven from the field and a perfect three of three at the foul line. He had five rebounds and one assist in the game.

Boston Katzer also helped lead the Orioles to victory, finishingh with eight points and leading the team in rebounds with 15. He also led in assists with five and in steals with six. 

Layton Smith finished with two points, two rebounds and Talen Eich provided two points, two rebounds. Cole Spieler had one assist in the game and Drake Mikkelsen had two rebounds and one steal. 

The Orioles will begin their State A run this Thursday, March 20 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls. No. 5 Lennox will take on No. 4 West Central. The two teams meet during the regular season on Jan. 23 with West Central getting the 47-42 edge. West Central brings a 19-3 record into State, having defeated Hanson 91-47 in the SoDak 16. Lennox brings a 19-4 record. The two teams will tip-off at 1:45 p.m. 

The opening game of the State A Tournament will feature No. 1 Sioux Falls Christian (21-1) against No. 8 Groton Area (17-5). The two teams will tip-off at 12 p.m. 

In the evening bracket on March 20, No. 2 Hamlin (20-2) takes on No. 7 Hill City (19-4) at 6 p.m. No. 3 Rapid City Christian (20-2) takes on No. 6 Clark/Willow Lake (18-4) at 7:45 p.m. 

Action begins on Friday, March 21 at 12 noon and continues through Saturday, March 22. 

If Lennox defeats West Central on March 20 they will play in the 6 p.m. game on March 21. If West Central wins, Lennox will play in the 12 noon game on March 21.
