On Tuesday, Apr. 23 the Lennox High School track and field team competed in the Dakota Valley Invite. Once again the team saw several strong performances with five first place finishes and several top five performances.
Capturing first place in the girls’ long jump was Bergen Musser who jumped a personal best, 17’3” at the event to claim top honors. Dani Highum (15’10.5”) took sixth for Lennox, Holly Gillick (15’5”) finished ninth. Musser was also a part of the girls’ 4x400 meter relay team that captured first place honors with their season best time of 4:08.44. Other team members included Tori Gerdes, Jayla DeCou, and Karlie Bosma.
Tate Gerdes captured top honors in the boys’ high jump, clearing 5’11. Layton Smith earned runner-up honors after clearing 5’9” in the event. Gerdes also took second in the triple jump with a season best jump of 40’2.75” in the event. Wyatt Bult also competed in the event for Lennox, taking seventh with a jump of 37’4”. Gerdes was also a member of the boys’ 4x100 meter relay team that took fourth place with a time of 46.08. Other team members included Corbin Hanneman, Boston Katzer, and Jaxson Bittner.
Another first place finish was captured for the Orioles by Cade Sherard in the 800 meter run. Sherard clocked a season best, 2:01.60, to win the event. Cloy McVey earned runner-up honors for Lennox with his time of 2:05.23.
Sherard and McVey along with Ethan Larson and Drake Mikkelsen combined in the 4x400 meter relay to capture top honors at Dakota Valley with their season best time of 3:32.20.
Earning second place in the girls’ 300 meter hurdles at Dakota Valley was Tori Gerdes who finished with a time of 47.75 seconds, recording a personal best. Gerdes also took fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.61.
Kelsey Schmidt took second place honors in the 3200 meter run with her time of 11:42.75. Adie McVey took third in the event with a time of 11:56.96. Schmidt also placed third in the 1600 meter run, clocking a time of 5:21.79. McVey placed fifth in the event (5:41.84).
Taking third place honors in the girls’ 400 meter dash was Karlie Bosma who clocked a time of 1;03.14 in the event.
Another third place was captured for the LHS girls in the javelin throw as Addison Martz threw a distance of 106’6” in the event to take third. Highum (100’3”) took sixth in the event for Lennox.
Jaxson Bittner took third in the boys’ long jump for the Orioles, jumping a distance of 20’4.75”. Bittner was also a member of the boys’ 4x200 meter relay team that took third with a time of 1:36.24. Other team members included Larson, Katzer, and Mikkelsen.
Mikkelsen finished fourth individually in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 44.34. Joey Boysen took seventh in the event for Lennox with a time of 46.40.
In the girls’ 100 meter dash, Jayla DeCou took fifth with a time of 12.71. She placed sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.94.
In the boys’ 400 meter dash, Chett Jibben placed sixth with a time of 55.40. Jibben teamed up with Hanneman, Katzer, and Noah Sayler in the boys’ 1600 sprint medley relay that took third at Dakota Valley with a time of 4:00.14.
In the boys’ shot put, Emory Lefers took fourth place, throwing a distance of 45’.
On Thursday, Apr. 25 the LHS track and field team competed in the Terry Bong Relays in Canton. Once again the Orioles enjoyed several first place finishes.
Capturing first in the girls’ 100 meter dash was Musser who finished with a time of 12.60 seconds. DeCou took second in the event with a time of 13.05. Musser also took first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.63. Karlie Bosma took fifth in the event for Lennox (28.57). Musser finished second in the girls’ long jump, jumping a distance of 16’3”.
DeCou earned first place honors in the girls’ 400 meter dash clocking a time of 1:03.14 in the event. Karlie Bosma took second (1:03.23) and Kenzie Bosma fourth (1:05.80).
C. McVey took first place honors in the boys’ 3200 meter run with a time of 10:35.33 in the event. Tim Kiosk took seventh in the event (13:03.62). McVey also competed in the boys’ 1600 meter run where he took second place honors with his time of 4:36.09. Sayler took third in the event with a time of 4:45.70.
Martz claimed top honors in the girls’ discus throw with a throw of 124’1”. Martz also took runner-up honors in the javelin throw with a throw of 99’11”. Lilly Meyer (93’09”) took fourth for Lennox in the event and Ryan Hanssen (88’3”) finished seventh.
Gillick finish first for the Orioles in the girls’ high jump, clearing 4’10”. Hanssen claimed second, clearing 4’8”.
The girls’ 4x800 meter relay team of Schmidt, A. McVey, and Kenzie and Karlie Bosma, took top honors with their season best time of 9:56.46.
Smith took first in the boys’ high jump, clearing 6’1”. Tate Gerdes claimed second, clearing 6’1”. Gerdes also took second place in the boys’ triple jump, jumping a distance of 40’2”.
Bittner claimed top honors in the boys’ long jump with a jump of 20’6.5”. Smith took sixth in the event (18’3.5”).
Other top performances included a second place by Larson in the boys’ 200 meter dash (23.50). Larson also took fifth in the 100 meter dash (11.84). Bittner took fourth in the event with a time of 11.68.
Mikkelson claimed second in the boys’ 400 meter dash with a time of 52.35. Sherard took third (52.64) and Jibben sixth (54.82).
Tori Gerdes took second in the girls’ 300 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 48.24 seconds. She also placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.44.
In the boys 110 meter hurdles, Boysen took third with a time of 17.31, Bult fourth (18.22) and Lucas Hartman seventh (21.29). Boysen also took third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 25.63. Bult took fourth (45.88) and Hartman seventh (49.02).
In the girls’ 800 meter run, A. McVey took second with a time of 2:36.25. Josephine Plucker finished fourth in the event (2:43.14). McVey also claimed second place honors in the girls’ 1600 meter run with a time of 5:36.23. Plucker took eighth (6:07.04).
Schmidt took second in the girls’ 3200 meter run with a time of 11:39.13.
The boys’ 1600 meter sprint medley relay team of Katzer, Bittner, Jibben, and Sayler claimed second place honors with their time of 3:48.84.
In the boys’ shot put, E. Lefers took second with a throw of 44’2”. Jevyn Lefers took eighth (38’11”). For the girls’ shot put, Mia Hanisch took third with a throw of 34’1.5” and Mart took fourth (33’10”).
The LHS team will compete in the Dakota Relays at Howard Wood in Sioux Falls, May 3-4. They will be at West Central on Thursday, May 9. Regions are scheduled to be held Thursday, May 16 at Elk Point Jefferson.
