Despite the strong wind last Thursday, Oct. 13 at the Region 3A Meet, the Lennox High School cross country team qualified their entire varsity girls team with a second place finish along with four varsity boy runners, finishing in the top 20, for the 2022 State A Meet.
Leading the varsity girls in the Region Meet at Vermillion was Kelsey Schmidt who captured third place honors with a time of 19:28.91 in the 5K race. Emily Plucker and Jersie Hostetler weren’t far behind, finishing in seventh and eighth respectively. Plucker clocked a time of 20:05.75 and Hostetler a time of 20:16.47.
Karlie Bosma took 13th at the Region Meet with a time of 20:53.31 and Josephine Plucker took 14th with a time of 20:53.52. Regan VanMeeteren took 23rd with a time of 21:22.61.
The LHS girls earned second place at Regions, qualifying the entire team for the State A Meet.
The LHS boys also found success at Regions, with four runners placing in the top 20 to earn their spot at State. They will also be able to compete as a team at State with those qualifying runners that included Noah Sayler, Maverick Horst, Cloy McVey, and Lucas Hartman.
Sayler led the way for the LHS boys at Regions with an eighth place finish and time of 17:27.47. Horst took tenth clocking a time of 17:37.10. McVey finished in 17th with a time of 18:18.14 and Hartman took 20th with a time of 18:21.54. Chet Jibben and Noah Wood also competed for the Orioles at Regions. Jibben finished just out of qualifying taking 23rd with a time of 18:37.78. Wood finished in 30th, clocking a time of 19:00.12. As a team, the Orioles claimed fourth.
The 2022 State A Meet will be held in Huron on Saturday, Oct. 22. Class A girls will begin the day’s event, running at 12 p.m. They will be followed by the Class AA girls at 12:30 p.m. and the Class B girls at 1 p.m. The Class A boys will compete at 1:30 p.m., the Class AA boys at 2 p.m. and the Class B boys at 2:30 p.m. Medals will be awarded to the top 25 individual runners with trophies given to the team champions and runner-up winners. Plaques will be awarded to teams finishing in third, fourth, fifth, and sixth place.
Junior Varsity runs were also held at Vermillion. Leading the Lennox JV girls was Graycee Postma who took fourth with a time of 18:04.99. Ellianna Thill took ninth with a time of 18:32.61, Kaydence Gerry 13th (19:05.01), Madison Eden 17th (19:17.94), Kassidy Williamson 19th (19:22.92), Olivia Homan 21st (19:35.44), Callie Hammerstrom 28th (20:29.21), and Maddyn Hossle 30th (21:26.88).
For the JV boys, Lennox’s Elijah Johnson won the race with a time of 14:20.98. Connor Sherard took third, clocking a time of 14:28.88. Isaak Booker finished sixth (14:57.14), Andrew Stensaas 11th (15:08.12), Landon Atkins 12th (15:09.65), Noah Werner 13th (15:10.32), Leo Aesoph 15th (15:12.76), Jackson Schmidt 29th (15:45.12), Isaiah Sayler 40th (16:03.11), Cameron Keatley 44th (16:12.26), Duncan Johnson 52nd (16:38.07), Cade Aasheim 58th (16:52.16), Jack Aasheim 60th (17:00.35), Caleb Ellwein 68th (17:27.27), Braylon Plucker 73rd (17:47.37), and Karson Iken 96th (20:03.83).
The Lennox JV boys won the team title and the Lennox JV girls took third as a team.
