The Lennox High School volleyball team hosted Madison at home on Thursday, Sept. 7. Despite a strong effort, the Orioles dropped the match-up 0-3 (19-25, 16-25, 17-25).
Dani Highum had five kills in the game, she also had eight digs. Ryan Hanssen had five kills and two blocks. Carli Kuyper finished with four kills and four blocks.
Ella Grengs added eight set assists, ten digs, and two blocks. Ashlee Sweeter had 15 digs.
“We really struggled to have an answer to Madison’s top hitter, Audrey Nelson, who accumulated 23 kills and eight blocks. She has already committed to USD for volleyball and it showed,” said Oriole head coach Vanessa Gabel. “Overall, I felt like our athletes handled the frustration in a positive way. They continued to support one another and applied pressure to the Madison squad where they could with either tough serves, strong attacks or aggressive defense. We worked really hard to rack up our points while Nelson was in the back row.”
The Orioles will be on the road this week, traveling to Parkston on Thursday, Sept. 14. On Tuesday, Sept. 19 the Orioles will be at Mount Vernon taking on Mount Vernon/Plankinton. On Thursday, Sept. 21 the team will be back home against West Central.
