Orioles defeat Tri-Valley, prepare for Dell Rapids this Thursday

Under the bright Friday night lights, the Lennox High School Orioles hosted the Tri-Valley Mustangs for a special game honoring veterans. In a nod to the brave men and women who serve, the Orioles wore South Dakota Army National Guard camouflage jerseys.

Lennox took control early, scoring a touchdown in the opening quarter. By halftime, they had blown the game wide open with 20 points in the second quarter, securing a commanding 26-0 lead. The Orioles continued their dominance in the second half, cruising to a decisive 44-8 victory.

Offensively, the Orioles were unstoppable, racking up 508 yards—349 through the air and 159 on the ground. In contrast, Tri-Valley managed 192 total yards, with 154 passing and 38 rushing.

Lennox’s Boston Katzer led the air attack, completing 25 of 33 passes for 349 yards, throwing six touchdowns, though he also had one interception.

Talen Eich was one of Katzer’s key targets, hauling in four receptions for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Drake Mikkelsen added five catches for 58 yards and two scores, while Tate Gerdes grabbed five passes for 58 yards, including a touchdown. Ramsey Williams contributed two catches for 20 yards, one of which was a touchdown. Chase Faulds (5 receptions, 78 yards) and Layton Smith (2 receptions, 22 yards) also contributed to the passing attack.

On the ground, Williams added another score with 54 rushing yards on seven carries. Gerdes rushed nine times for 65 yards, and Katzer chipped in with 25 yards on six carries.

Defensively, the Orioles also excelled. Nate Haar recorded a sack, while Jevyn Lefers snagged an interception. Williams and Haar led the team in tackles with five each, followed by Emory Lefers and Nolyn Spielman with four apiece, Gerdes with three, and Atticus Larson and Jefers with two each.

With this win, the second-ranked Orioles improve to 7-1 on the season. They now turn their attention to a crucial matchup against third-ranked Dell Rapids, who holds a 6-2 record. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Lennox.v
