Throughout the season the Oriole Pride Marching Band earned first place in the 2024 Pursuit of Excellence and also took Best Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion and Color Guard at the same competition. At the Tri-State Band Festival, the Oriole Pride Marching Band took second place and earned best Color Guard and Drum Majors and went home with the People’s Choice Award.
At the Big Sioux Review, the LHS Band took second place and earned best Color Guard. At the Festival of Bands, Lennox captured first place and earned best Color Guard. At the Youth in Music in Minneapolis, the Oriole Pride Marching Band took fourth place.
The bands’ performance this season was entitled “The Junkyard”. The band took audiences on journey through an industrial scrapyard where discarded metal and debris were re-purposed to build a stunning motorcycle (thanks to Al Osborn). Starting with the quirky rhythms of “Melodious Thunk” by David Biendenbender, the show captured the chaotic energy of the junkyard. As the band transitioned into the rock anthem, “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf, the motorcycle began to take shape, symbolizing freedom and raw power. Original music by Spencer Kruse was woven throughout the show, driving the narrative and celebrating the transformation of junk into something extraordinary.
The Junior High Marching Band also had a successful year claiming first place at the Missouri Valley Marching Festival and first place at the Lake Area Festival of Bands.
