Local business donates to school lunch program

By Anne Homan

The Lennox School District recently received a powerful gift from a local business.

In early December, Laurie Karlson, owner of Lauriebelle’s Boutique made a generous donation to cover all the negative lunch balances for the entire district.

The Lennox School District has a “Pay it Forward” lunch account funded through various donations.

“Throughout much of the pandemic, the United States Department of Agriculture was able to provide families with free reimbursable meals as part of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act,” said Superintendent Chad Conaway. “At the program’s conclusion, we began to identify families struggling to cover their children’s lunch balance. It is in these cases that we apply funds from the ‘Pay it Forward’ lunch account to help struggling families. We are grateful to Laurie Karlson and Lauriebelle’s Boutique Inc. for their generous donation to replenish this account and help us ensure all our students have access to a nutritious meal daily.”
