The Lennox High School volleyball team kicked off their 23-24 season at the Canton Tournament held on Saturday, Aug. 26. The team navigated through an intense day of matches, ultimately finishing with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses.
In a nail-biting opener, Lennox clashed against Garretson in a contested battle. Despite their best efforts, Lennox was narrowly edged out in a tight match that concluded with scores of 28-30 and 20-25.
Dani Highum and Libby Kranz led the charge in kills, both contributing an impressive six kills each against Garretson. Ella Grengs led the team in set assists with ten. Defensively, Ashlee Sweeter finished with four digs.
The Orioles then faced off against Vermillion and earned the 2-0 win with scores of 25-13 and 26-24.
Kranz earned six kills for Lennox, while Lilly Meyer finished with 14 set assists. Sweeter contributed two digs.
Lennox then faced off against West Lyon in a match that had spectators on the edge of their seats. In another tight match-up, Lennox dropped the first (17-25) won the second (25-23), and dropped the third (13-25) to eventually lose the match-up 2-1. Highum’s 11 kills highlighted the team’s offense with Meyer leading the team in assists with 12. Sweeter had five digs.
Following the loss to West Lyon, Lennox bounced back with a 2-0 win over West Monona (25-29, 25-19). This win earned the Orioles fifth place at the Tournament.
Highum contributed five kills in the match-up and Hannah Adney recorded seven assists.
Lennox was scheduled to be at home on Tuesday, Aug. 29 against Vermillion. They will be home again on Thursday, Aug. 31 when they take on Tri-Valley.
