LHS track and Field team compete in Tea, Lennox Meets

On Thursday, Apr. 17 the Lennox High School track and field team hosted their first meet of the season. The Orioles enjoyed success with new personal bests set in several events.
Earning top honors at the Lennox Invite was Tori Gerdes who recorded a season’s best 46.53 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles. This mark also places her second in Class A. Briana Slack also competed, taking 11th (58.91). Gerdes took second in the 100 meter hurdles with a new personal best time of 15.91 seconds. Slack took tenth (18.76).
With a season’s best time of 2:05.14, Noah Sayler claimed top honors in the boys’ 800 meter run. His time now sits at tenth in Class A. Lennox’s Isaak Booker took second in the event with a personal best time of 2:11.83 and Chett Jibben took third (2:12.15). Jackson Schmidt (2:17.90, 10th), Noah Wood (2:25.47, 15th); and Elijah Johnson (2:41.28, 23rd) also competed.
In the boys’ 1600 meter run, Cloy McVey claimed top honors with his time of 4:34.78, putting him second in Class A. Landon Strasser took fourth in the event (4:58.11) and Aiden Hanssen seventh (5:05.75). Leo Aesoph placed tenth (5:18.43).
In the girls’ 1600 meter run, Kelsey Schmidt took first place with a season’s best time of 5:29.93. Lucy Carlson (6:13.27, 7th) and Kamille Schmidt (6:16.70, 8th) also competed. Schmidt also took first place in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:53.31.
In the boys’ high jump, Lennox’s Tate Gerdes took first place, clearing 6’1”. Layton Smith finished second with a jump of 5’9” and Teegan Musser third, clearing 5’9”.
In the boys’ long jump, Jaxson Bittner claimed first place with a jump of 21’2.75”, this personal best jump places him fifth in Class A. Musser took second in the event with a jump of 21’.25”, placing him sixth in Class A. Smith took third in the event with a season best 20’1.75”. Noah Sitter also competed (15’3”, 28th).
Jevyn Lefers claimed the top spot in the boys’ shot put, with a personal best 47’3”. This places him sixth in Class A. Emory Lefers took second in the event, with a throw of 46’5”, placing him eighth in Class A. Nate Haar finished third with a throw of 43’3”. Gus VonHaden (36’4”, 14th), Leif Karlson (35’9”, 16th), David Bartscher (17th), Jacob Richert (20th), Preston Sandal (24th), Davin Cwach (31st), Jayden Hopf (34th), Rylan Langbehn (40th), and Jacob Snyder (43rd) also competed.
In relay action, the boys’ 1600 meter Sprint Medley team of Bittner, Musser, McVey and Cade Sherard finished with a time of 3:45.26 to win the event.
The girls’ 1600 meter Sprint Medley team of Ryan Hanssen, Jayla DeCou, Adie McVey, and Karlie Bosma, took first with a time of 4:21.42 in the event.
The boys’ 4x400 meter relay team of Sherard, Sayler, McVey and Drake Mikkelsen took first with a season’s best time of 3:31.23. This time places them third in Class A.
For the girls’ 4x400 meter relay, the team of Karlie Bosma, McVey, DeCou, and Gerdes took first place with a season’s best time of 4:12.18, placing them second in Class A.
Several other athletes had second place finishes at the Lennox Invite.
Boston Katzer took second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.73 seconds. Ben Dejong took sixth (11.98), EJ Dendy 30th and George Scott 34th.
DeCou took second in the girls’ 100 meter dash with a personal best time of 12.60 in the event. This places her fifth in Class A. Adelynn Timmermans (21st), Jaelyn Fergen (34th), Komila Karimova (39th) and Maria Nelson (40th) also competed.
In the boys’ 200 meter dash, Bittner took second with personal best time of 23.55 seconds. Katzer took fifth (23.92), Scott 18th (26.20), and Dendy 24th (27.50).
In the boys’ 300 meter hurdles, Mikkelsen took second with a personal best time of 40.54. This places him second in Class A. Kendren Fergen also competed, placing eighth with a time of 48.88 seconds.
In the boys’ discus, Haar took second with a personal best throw of 128’7”. J. Lefers took fourth (122’7”), Emory Lefers ninth (111’5”), Jacob Richert 11th, Bartscher 11th, Eli Highum 18th, Sandal 24th, Cwach 36th, Lukias Johnson 38th, VonHaden 39th, Jayden Hopf 42nd, Rylan Langbehn 47th, and Aden Voeltz 49th.
Addison Martz took second in the javelin throw with a throw of 100’2”, placing her eighth in Class A. Lilly Meyer took third (98’8’) placing her tenth in Class A. Hanssen took fourth with a throw of 93’8”. Sydney Johnson took ninth (82’5”), Mia Hanisch 10th (81’11”), Kassidy Williamson 22nd, and Peyton Herlyn 24th. Martz also placed second in the shot put with a personal best throw of 25’9.5”. This places her eighth in Class A. Hanisch took sixth, Johnson eighth, Williamson 20th, Madison Buehner 28th, Herlyn 30th.
Martz placed third in the discus throw with a throw of 110’9” in the event.
In the boys’ triple jump, Gerdes claimed second with a season-best jump of 39’9.25”. Wyatt Bult took seventh and Sitter 14th.
Other highlights at the Lennox Invite included sixth place finish by Booker in the boys’ 400 meter dash with a time of 55.74 seconds and a sixth place finish in the girls’ 400 meter dash by Sophia Johnson with a time of 1:07.67. In the girls’ 800 meter run, Allison Loewe placed sixth (2:48.12) and Josephine Plucker took seventh (2:49.40). Maverick Horsst took fifth in the boys’ 3200 meter run with a time of 11:31.97.
Hanssen took third in the girls’ high jump with a jump of 4’9”. Holly Gillick placed fourth, clearing 4’9” and Jaelyn Fergen fifth clearing 4’7”. Gillick took fourth in the long jump, jumping 15’8.5”.
In the boys’ javelin throw, Brennan Juffer took fifth witha throw of 135’10”. Haar took eighth in the event (128’6”).
Prior to the Lennox Invite the LHS team competed in the Titan Relays in Tea on Tuesday, Apr. 15.
Several athletes found success there as well with T. Musser taking first in both the high jump and long jump. Musser clearing 6’ to win the high jump with teammates Smith taking second and Gerdes fourth, also clearing 6’. Maverick Stockwell took fifth, clearing 5’6”.
In the long jump, Musser jumped 19’6” to win the event. Bittneer took second with a jump of 19’1.5”. VonHaden took seventh (17’1”).
In the girls’ long jump, Bergan Musser took top honors jumping a distance of 16’7.5”. Fergen took fifth with a jump of 14’1.5” and Gillick sixth (14’1”). Adelynn Timmermans took 11th (13’3”).
The girls’ 4x800 meter relay team of McVey, Schmidt, Bosma, and Johnson took first place with a time of 9:53.39, placing them second in Class A.
The boys’ 4x800 meter relay team of Sayler, Sherard, JIbben, and McVey took firsst with a time of 8:35, placing them second in Class A.
Mikkelsen claimed first palce in the boys’ 400 meter dash with a time of 50.85 seconds. In the girls’ 400 meter dash, B. Musser took fourth (59.60) and Bosma took fifth (1:02.21).
Other highlights from the Titan Relays included a third place finish in the 100 meter dash by DeCou who clocked a time of 13.07 seconds. DeCou earned second in the 200 meter dash with a tiem of 26.80.
Tori Gerdes claimed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16 seconds flat. Gerdes also captured second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.64.
In the boys’ 300 meter hurdles, Bult took second with a time of 44.41. He placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (17.26). Joey Boysen took fifth (18.08).
Inthe boys’ 800 meter dash, Sherard took second with a time of 2:01.60. Jibben took third (2:04.60). Sayler took second in the boys’ 1600 meter run with a time of 4:46.26. Jackson Schmidt took seventh in the event (4:57.66) and Leo Aesoph eighth (5:06.18).
In the boys’ 3200 meter run, McVey took third with a time of 10:06.16.
J. Lefers took second in the boys’ discus throw with a throw of 136’9”. E. Lefers took sixth (113’6”). In the shot put, E. Lefers took fourth (45’6”).
Martz took third in the girls’ discus with a throw of 113’11”. She also got third in the shot put, throwing 34’3”. Hanisch took eighth in the event (29’2.5”) and Sydney Johnson ninth (29’1”).
In the girls’ high jump, Gillick took third with a jump of 4’10”. Fergen and Hanssen tied for eighth, clearing 4’6”.
In the javelin, Juffer led the way for the boys with a fifth place finish and throw of 130’6” and Meyer led the way for the girls with a fourth place finish and throw of 97’6”.
In the boys’ triple jump, Tate Gerdes took second with a jump of 38’11”. VonHaden took fourth (36’.5”) and Bult sixth.
The girls’ 1600 meter Sprint Medley relay team of Hanssen, Gillick, Sophia Johnson, and Allison Loewe took second with a time of 4:46.42.
The Orioles will be back in action on Thrusday, Apr. 24 when they compete at Tea in a 3:30 p.m. meet.
