The Lennox O’s girl’s tennis team kicked off their season on August 16th.
The girls’ tennis team had their first competition of the season against Huron and Harrisburg at the Harrisburg high school courts. The team started they day playing against Huron.
Overall, the team competed hard and had some close matches, Brooke Buehner battled in singles before dropping the match 6-10 and at flight #1 doubles Madison Buehner and Grace Dressen took their match down to the wire before dropping it 7-10. In the end, the O’s dropped the dual 0-9 to the Tigers.
The team then took on Harrisburg. Again, the O’s competed hard and played some good tennis, but dropped the dual 0-9 to a strong Tiger team.
Junior Varsity also took on Harrisburg and Huron.
“They ran into a solid tiger JV team and dropped the dual 0-9,” said head coach Kevin Plank. But they competed better with Huron by scoring a win at #3 doubles from Sierra Wesseling and Lily Kezar, and competing in close matches in singles from Wesseling and Kezar and in doubles from Karly Bosma and Bri Slack.
On Saturday, Aug. 17 the varsity and junior varsity team took on Milbank in Harrisburg. The O’s came out ready to play and earned wins in singles from Madison Buehner at flight #1, Grace Dressen at flight #2, Brooke Buehner at flight #3 and Miriam Welch at flight #5. The O’s also earned doubles wins from M. Buehner and Dressen at flight #1, B. Buehner and Wallenstein at flight #2 and from Welch and Kenzie Gilland at flight #3. In the end, the O’s took the dual win 7-2 from the Bulldogs.
Junior Varsity also competed and took the dual win 13-4. Wins were scored in singles by Ella Ellwein, Lily Kezar, Reba Schroeder, Izzy Gerdes and Gracie Wood. Wins in doubles came from the teams of Ellwein and Kezar, Wesseling and Schroeder, Gerdes and Wood, Adaleigh Wesselink and Wesseling and Kezar and Schroder.
On August 20th the team traveled to Yankton to take on the Bucks and the Vermillion Tanagers. First off, the team took on the Bucks, which consists of last year’s class AA State champion. The varsity team had some close matches and competed hard, but unfortunately dropped the dual 0-9. The Junior Varsity team consisting of Bri Slack, Holly Gillick and Milayah Hofer also took on the Gazelles, but dropped that dual 0-4
Varsity then took on Vermillion and again had some close matches in doubles and singles, but dropped the dual 1-8 with the only win coming from Madi Buehner at flight #1 singles.
The JV team also played some strong matches, but dropped their dual 0-4.
The varsity and junior varsity teams competed in Brandon Valley against the Lynx and Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Aug. 26. Watch next week’s paper for results.
