LHS girls’ tennis team competes in Madison Invite

On August 23rd and 24th the Lennox High School girls’ tennis team participated in the Madison invite with all the other teams from class A.

Singles was played on Friday with each player competing in their own flight.  At flight #1 Madison Buehner went 2-1, at flight #2 Grace Dressen went 0-3, at flight #3 Brooke Buehner went 2-1, at flight #4 Macy Wallenstein went 1-2, at flight #5 Miriam Welch went 1-3 and at flight #6 Karlie Bosma went 0-3. On Saturday the team competed in doubles.  M. Buehner and Dressen played at Flight #1 and went 2-1, B. Buehner and Wallenstein competed at flight #2 and went 2-1 and Welch and Kenzie Gilland competed at flight #3 and went 1-2.

Then on Monday, Aug. 26th the team competed against Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Brandon Valley in Brandon Valley.

First off, the team took on the Lynx.

“The team competed down to the wire and had their chances to pull out wins in the end at five of the nine flights, but unfortunately the Lynx proved to be to strong and secured the dual 9-0,” said LHS head coach Kevin Plank.

Lennox then took on Roosevelt and took wins at flights #1 and #2 doubles to jump out to a 2-1 lead.  But in singles the Rough Riders bounced back and won at flights #3, #5 and #6 to go up 4-3 in the dual with M. Buehner and Dressen still fighting for a win in singles.

“Dressen was down big early in the match, but never gave up and used her experience to work her way back into it to secure the win 8-6 and to tie the dual 4-4,” said Plank.

This left M. Buehner as the last match on with the dual tied. She was up early, but her opponent battled back to take it to a tie breaker at 7-7, but Buehner’s experience and grit carried her through to victory winning the breaker in dominant fashion 7-2 to secure the team win 5-4.

Next up, the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams travel to Tomar Park in Sioux Falls on September 3rd at 4 p.m. to take on Sioux Falls Christian.
