LHS cross country team competes at Augustana Twilight Meet

The Lennox High School cross country team traveled to Yankton Trails Park on Friday night, September 6, to compete in the annual Augustana Twilight Meet. Known as one of the premier meets in the region, the event attracted 1,601 athletes from 75 schools across five different states.

Lennox athletes faced stiff competition, with many setting personal records (PRs) and season-best (SB) times on the challenging 4,000-meter and 5,000-meter courses.

Senior Kelsey Schmidt delivered an impressive performance in the girls’ 5,000-meter race, finishing 20th overall with a personal best time of 18:39.70. Other notable Lennox runners included Adie McVey, who secured 33rd place with a personal record of 19:05.95, and Natalie Aesoph, who placed 106th with a personal best of 20:37.69. Kamille Schmidt finished 114th with a personal record of 20:41.82, closely followed by Sophia Johnson in 115th with a personal best of 20:42.76. Allison Loewe achieved a personal record of 21:14.50 to finish 153rd, while Josephine Plucker came in 245th with a season-best time of 22:29.84. Lucy Carlson rounded out the results with a personal best of 22:40.62, finishing 254th.

Junior Cloy McVey led the way for the Lennox boys in the 5,000-meter race, securing 56th place with a personal record time of 16:14.99. Noah Sayler followed, finishing 141st with a season-best time of 17:14.99. Maverick Horst claimed 208th place with a season-best of 17:47.64, while Chett Jibben finished 218th, also with a season-best time of 17:52.17. Cade Sherard placed 260th, running a season-best 18:14.30. Eighth-grader Landon Strasser clocked in a personal record of 18:33.11 to finish 291st, while Isaak Booker, Leo Aesoph, and Jackson Schmidt also set personal records, finishing 311th, 313th, and 362nd, respectively with times of 18:44.74, 18:45.36 and 19:18.16.  

Sophomore Andrew Stensaas led the Lennox JV boys, finishing 147th out of a large field with a time of 15:48.06. Other notable performances included:  Cade Aasheim (316th) - 17:19.77 (SB); Duncan Johnson (340th) - 17:34.14 (SB); Triston Sturm (363rd) - 17:48.91; Lance Aasheim (408th) - 18:22.29 (PR); Isaiah Sayler (429th) - 18:44.57 (SB); Greyson Seeman (454th) - 19:06.70

Seventh-grader Kensi Holland finished strong for the Lennox JV girls, finishing 48th with a personal record of 17:54.31. Other key finishes included:  Kaydence Gerry (204th) - 20:08.38 (SB); Harper Walsh (250th) - 21:02.51 (PR); Jenna Duncan (252nd) - 21:03.22 (SB); Graycee Postma (259th) - 21:16.95 (PR); Lily Kuiken (287th) - 22:02.45; Adalynn Nielson (300th) - 22:27.22; Ashley Dummer (324th) - 28:04.44

The LHS cross country team will compete at Yankton Trail Park again on Sept. 17 when they compete in the Sioux Falls Christian Invite. They will be at Sioux Center on Sept. 26 and will be at home on Oct. 3.
