LHS cross country season underway


On Friday, Aug. 25 the 23-24 cross country season got underway for the Lennox High School athletes at the Beresford Cross Country Invitational.

The Lennox varsity girls finished fifth as a team among the ten teams competing. Sioux Falls Christian won the team title. Leading the pack for Lennox was Kelsey Schmidt, a seasoned junior, who finished seventh among the near 80 runners competing. She clocked a time of 19:54.25.

Adding to Lennox’s varsity girls success was seventh-grader Adie McVey who earned 13th place with her time of 20:45.77. Regan Van Meeteren’s time of 22:49.35 earned her the 41st position, while Josephine Plucker’s time of 22:52.51 secured the 43rd spot. Camille Schmidt finished with a time of 23:00.88 to take 47th in the 5K race.

The Lennox varsity boys also finished fifth as a team among the 13 teams competing. Sioux Falls Christian won the team title.

Leading the pack for Lennox was Noah Sayler, a junior, who captured 13th place with a time of 17:23.03. Adding to Lennox’s achievements, was fellow junior, Cade Sherard who secured the 14th position with a time of 17:24.72.

Chett Jibben secured the 26th position for the varsity boys with a time of 18:09.81.Cloy McVey earned 30th with a time of 18:18.31. Maverick Horst took 39th (19:03.49) and Lucas Hartman finished 49th (19:46.44) in the 5K run.

For the Junior Varsity girls, Lennox was led by seventh grader Allison Loewe who finished in seventh place with her time of 18:36.14 in the 4K race. Holly Gillick, a sophomore, earned an 11th-place finish with a time of 18:49.50. Ellianna Thill and Graycee Postma, secured the 28th and 44th positions respectively. Thill clocked a time of 19:42.91 and Postman 21:22.64. Madden Hossle finished 50th (22:14.86), Jaelyn Bergen 66th (24:59.04), and Callie Hammerstrom 67th (25:16.92).

For the JV boys, Elijah Johnson led the way for Lennox with an 18th place finish, clocking a time of 16:06.57 in the 4K race. Connor Sherard took 20th with a time of 16:21.78 and Andrew Stensaas took 22nd with a time of 16:24.54). Noah Werner finished 37th (17:10.09), Jack Aasheim 51st (17:42.01), Landon Atkins 61st (18:14.97), Cade Aasheim 64th (18:22.30), Isaiah Sayler 67th (18:25.08), Caleb Ellwein 83rd (19:14.19), Riley Nelson 87th (19:21.06), and Duncan Johnson 101st (19:46.08).

A 3K Junior High run was also ran. Natalie Aesoph led the Lennox girls with a 24th place finish, clocking a time of 13:51.06. Lucy Carlson finished 32nd (14:12.72). Kaydence Gerry took 57th (15:03.67), Gracie Wood 76th (16:09.64), and Harper Walsh 88th (17:11.03).

In the 3K Junior High Boys’ run, Landon Strasser led the way for Lennox with a third place finish. Strasser clocked a time of 11:03.07. Izaak Booker took 16th with a time of 11:33.77. Leo Aesoph finished 20th with a time of 11:49.96. Jackson Schmidt finished 24th (12:07.45); Charley Bittner 28th (12:19.65); Braylon Plucker 56th (13:01.52), Lance Aasheim 97th (15:02.94), and Keegan Vander Plaats 108th (15:56.72).

The LHS cross country team will travel to Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls on Friday, Sept. 1 to compete in the Augustana Twilight Meet. Races will begin with the JV girls at 6 p.m., followed by the JV boys, Varsity girls, Varsity boys, College women and College men.
