Lennox softball team comes up short against Elk Point-Jefferson

The Lennox High School girls’ softball team fell to Elk Point-Jefferson Varsity Huskies 9-6last Thursday, April 3. Elk Point-Jefferson Varsity Huskies were the first to get on the board in the first when Cera Schmitz drew a walk, scoring one run.

Elk Point-Jefferson added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Molly Geary doubled, scoring one run, and Paige Jacobs homered to left field, scoring two runs.

Ahleeya Nicola singled to center field, which helped Lennox tie the game at four in the bottom of the fourth.

Elk Point-Jefferson flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 9-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Breann J that drove in two.

Layci Eli opened the game for Lennox on the mound. The starter gave up 13 hits and nine runs (six earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out nine and walking five. 

Regan Rasmussen started the game for Elk Point-Jefferson. The pitcher gave up seven hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out one and walking five.

The Orioles amassed 12 hits in the game. Aleeah Oltmanns, Taylor Ragle, Eli, Macy Wallenstein, and Nicola each collected two hits for Lennox Varsity Orioles. Wallenstein and Nicola each drove in two runs for Lennox Varsity Orioles. Hailey Seelen paced Lennox Varsity Orioles with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. Lennox turned one double play in the game.

Elk Point-Jefferson piled up 14 hits in the game. Laney Trometer set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Elk Point-Jefferson with three hits in four at bats. Jacobs and J each drove in two runs for Elk Point-Jefferson Varsity Huskies. Geary, Schmitz, and Natalie Hailey each collected multiple hits for Elk Point-Jefferson Varsity Huskies. Elk Point-Jefferson Varsity Huskies had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Geary and Schmitz led the team with two bases on balls each. Schmitz stole two bases. Elk Point-Jefferson Varsity Huskies turned one double play in the game.

Lennox took on Tri-Valley on Friday, Apr. 4 and lost 0-15. The Orioles were scheduled to host Vermillion on April 8 and will be in action on Thursday, Apr. 10 at Sioux Falls Christian for a 5 p.m. match-up.
