Lennox shines at Conference Meet

The Lennox High School cross country teams had strong showings in the Dak12 Meet held in Lennox last Thursday, Oct. 10 with the Lennox girls’ varsity team taking second place and the boys’ varsity team finishing fourth overall.

Leading the charge for the Lennox varsity girls was senior Kelsey Schmidt, finishing fourth with a time of 19:17.65 in the 5K race. Eighth-grader Adie McVey came in 10th at 19:50.02, followed closely by another eighth-grader, Natalie Aesoph, who achieved a personal record (PR) of 19:52.76 to take 12th. Sophia Johnson, a seventh-grader, placed 19th with a time of 21:14.85, while Lucy Carlson (22:00.86) and Allison Loewe (22:27.43), both eighth-graders, finished 28th and 29th, respectively. Josephine Plucker, a junior, wrapped up the team’s efforts with a time of 24:19.06, placing 36th.

On the boys’ side, senior Maverick Horst led the varsity team, securing 11th place with a time of 17:19.14 in the 5K race. Cloy McVey (17:40.53) and Noah Sayler (17:46.80) followed in 15th and 16th, respectively. Eighth-grader Landon Strasser finished 19th with a time of 17:59.06, and senior Chett Jibben came in 20th at 18:00.61. Senior Cade Sherard (18:30.43) and freshman Isaak Booker (18:55.66) rounded out the team in 27th and 31st place, while freshman Leo Aesoph finished in 34th at 19:02.45.

In the boys’ junior varsity 4K, sophomore Andrew Stensaas achieved a season best (SB) of 15:41.87, finishing 11th. Ninth-grader Jackson Schmidt came in 18th at 16:21.75, followed by Cade Aasheim in 20th place (16:32.37). Duncan Johnson (17:07.70), Isaiah Sayler (17:29.59), and Jack Aasheim (17:39.77) finished in the 28th, 33rd, and 38th spots, respectively. 

On the girls’ junior varsity side, seventh-grader Kensi Holland finished ninth with a time of 18:38.22. Freshman Kaydence Gerry placed 19th at 19:38.11, while senior Graycee Postma secured a season best with her 28th-place finish at 20:52.19. Senior Jenna Duncan finished 31st with a time of 21:17.25.

In the middle school boys’ 3K race, eighth-grader Lance Aasheim led the Lennox team with a 28th-place finish at 12:52.80. Greyson Seeman, a seventh-grader, achieved a PR with a time of 13:11.11, placing 31st. Levi Hickey (13:59.74) rounded out the team’s performance in 42nd place.

The girls’ middle school team saw Harper Walsh finish 19th with a time of 14:33.95, while seventh-grader Adalynn Nielson earned a PR with her 20th-place finish (14:40.95). Lily Kuiken also set a PR with her 24th-place finish (15:16.78). Seventh-grader Ashley Dummer finished 28th with a time of 19:04.76.

The LHS cross country team will compete in the Region Meet this Thursday, Oct. 17 at Elk Point Jefferson. The event is set to begin at 3 p.m. 

On Saturday, Oct. 26 the State Cross Country meet will be held in Rapid City.
