Lennox girls earn State runner-up title at State Powerlifting Meet: Maggie Jacobson, Abbie Wildeboer take first Lilly Meyer, Gavin Horner set State records

Thirty lifters represented the Lennox School District on Saturday, March 1 at the 2025 State Powerlifting Meet.  

The Lennox girls’ team earned the State runner-up title with a total of 45 team points. Every girl on the team placed in the top five in their respective divisions. Abbie Wildeboer and Maggie Jacobson both took top honors. Wildeboer also set three State records in the new 154 pound division. Maliyah Hofer and Lilly Meyer claimed second in their respective divisions with Meyer setting a new State record in the 270 pound back squat. Madison Buehner placed third and Sierra Wesseling, Maddyn Hossle, and Kenna Schilling each took fourth place honors. 

The Lennox boys’ team secured fourth place with 41 team points.


The boys’ team boasted nine individual top-five finishes. Gavin Horner earned second in his division and broke the all-class school record in the deadlift, lifting an impressive 555 pounds. Also earning second was Shayden Olean. Taking third place honors was George Scott and Jayden Hopf. Fourth place honors went to Ethan Eitreim and James Hermanson and fifth place honors were awarded to Jacob Capon, Jevyn Lefers, and David Bartscher.  

Other participants who contributed to the team’s success included Gabe Veurink, Alex Schuelke, Easton Timmermans, Wyatt Bult, Cael Mower, Rylan Langbehn, Ian Holmes, Alec Gates, Lincoln Rust, Zach Boysen, Logan VonHaden, Davin Cwach, Jacob Snyder, and Jacob Richert.

Coach Matt Luze expressed his gratitude for the team’s hard work and the support they received throughout the season, “Coach Sattler, Coach Meyer, and I are very thankful for the work that these men and women put in throughout the season to get better and compete as a team! To all the parents who supported us throughout the season, THANK YOU!” 

Luze also extended special thanks to Matt Mower, Brandon Bostwick, Eric Page, and Austin Richter for their assistance during the state meet.

He also took a moment to recognize the contributions of the team’s two seniors, Madison Buehner and Lilly Meyer. 

“We say thank you to our two seniors, Madison Buehner and Lilly Meyer!  They have helped to pave the way for this program to see continued success in the future,” said Luze. “Their mentorship and leadership cannot go understated and we will miss them next year.  Thank you ladies for everything you did for this program!”
