The South Dakota High School Activities Association Class A State Cross Country meet took place at Hart Ranch in Rapid City on Saturday, Oct. 26, where Lennox High School’s cross-country teams delivered impressive performances.
In the Girls’ 5K race, the Lennox High School girls’ team clinched second place overall at the State Meet.
Leading the team, senior Kelsey Schmidt secured an individual seventh-place finish with a time of 19:11.75. Eighth graders Adie McVey and Natalie Aesoph followed close behind, placing 19th and 20th with times of 20:08.77 and 20:09.89, respectively. Seventh grader Sophia Johnson (56th place, 21:37.39) and eighth grader Lucy Carlson (72nd place, 22:04.25) also scored for Lennox, rounding out the team’s performance. Faith Wiese from Flandreau won the Class A girls’ race with an impressive time of 18:27.59, and Sioux Falls Christian claimed the girls’ team title.
In the Boys’ 5K race, Lennox High School took seventh place as a team. Senior Noah Sayler (at right) led with a 20th-place finish, clocking in at 17:48.34, earning him a spot on the podium.
Fellow senior Maverick Horst followed in 29th place with a time of 17:56.31, while junior Cloy McVey finished 42nd (18:27.73), senior Chett Jibben took 44th (18:30.65), and eighth grader Landon Strasser placed 49th (18:36.22). Senior Cade Sherard (95th place, 20:29.64) completed the boys’ lineup. The boys’ race was won by Hill City’s Tate Grabow, who finished with a leading time of 16:17.50. Sioux Falls Christian claimed the boys’ team title. Snapshots from State at right.
