
The Lennox High School boys’ basketball team grabbed two wins last week, defeating Elk Point Jefferson 63-54 on Feb. 4 and Baltic 47-39 on Feb. 6.
Against Elk Point Jefferson, Lennox found themselves fighting with the Huskies until a wisely used time-out gave the Orioles the focus they needed to pull out the win.
“We shot our best percentage this year from the field in this game. We turned the ball over too much and that was an emphasis in practice the next day,” said LHS head coach Jacob Hinker. “We were working through a few changes defensively that we went through a few growing pains with throughout this game. Overall, we were happy with getting a region win.”
Tate Gerdes led the way for Lennox with a double-double in the game, scoring 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Gerdes also finished with six assists and two steals.
Teegan Musser scored 16 points on the night, grabbed five rebounds, had one assist and one steal. Aiden Hanssen was also in double figures, scoring ten points. He grabbed one rebound and had five assists.
Boston Katzer scored seven points, had six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Layton Smith scored five points, grabbed three rebounds, had one assist and one steal. Drake Mikkelsen finished with four points, one rebound, and one assist. Talen Eich had three points and one steal.
On Feb. 6, the Orioles hosted Baltic and despite a slow start Lennox earned the 47-39 victory.
“We struggled from the field offensively this game, but our defense stepped up and was phenomenal after the first quarter,” said Hinker. “I was proud of the boys for staying locked in on the defensive end when shots weren’t falling for us.”
Gerdes led the way against Baltic with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Katzer provided nine points, one rebound, and one assist. Hanssen scored seven points, grabbed three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Cole Spieler had six points, one rebound, and one steal. Musser had five points and five rebounds. Mikkelsen finished with two points, two rebounds, and one assist. Smith had one points, a team-high nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Orioles were scheduled to host Pine Ridge on Feb. 11 and will be at Beresford on Feb. 18 and at Tri-Valley on Feb. 20.
