Field takes the helm as interim superintendent: School begins Aug. 21

The Lennox School District School Board hired Brian Field to serve as interim Superintendent for the 24-25 school year. Field comes with a Master’s in Secondary School Administration, over 34 years in education, and experience in five different building projects.

Graduating from Beresford High School in 1983, Brian Field set out for a career in education.

“I earned my Specialist in Education degree in the School District Superintendent program at the University of South Dakota (USD), my Master’s degree in Secondary School Administration at South Dakota State University (SDSU), and Bachelor’s degree in History/ Secondary Education at USD,” Field said.

For 34 years, Field continued educating students before his retirement in 2021.

“I was a principal for 12 years at Freeman Public Junior/Senior High School, Beresford High School, and Watertown High School. I was the superintendent of the Beresford School District for 14 years,” said Field.

After retirement, Field has chosen to pursue part-time jobs to remain active in his line of work.

“I serve as an Education Specialist for Architecture Incorporated, I assist Dakota Timing with indoor and outdoor college and high school track and field meets, and driving the co-curricular bus for the Beresford School district,” he said.

After meeting with the Lennox School District School Board on March 7, Field knew this district was one he wanted to be a part of.

“The Lennox School District has a rich history of high academic achievement, strong co-curricular programs, and parental and community support for education. The District is committed to 21st century teaching and learning practices, as well as the most up-to-date technology tools for our students and teachers,” he said.

As interim Superintendent, Field’s contract is effective from July 1 through June 30, 2025.

“My priority will be to make connections and build positive relationships with the school board, admin team, staff, students, parents, and community by being visible and through mutual trust and respect for one another. We will strive to provide a positive environment in which all children can and will succeed. We will continue to provide a positive school climate that focuses on building and sustaining relationships with our students, staff, parents, and communities,” he said.

On May 29, residents of the Lennox School District passed a $17 million bond with 74 percent approval to complete an addition to the junior high/ high school facility. With previous experiences in five different building projects, Field’s is getting acquainted with the project.

“Director of Building and Grounds, Alex Jorgensen, and I continue to attend all the construction progress meetings every two weeks with representatives of Puetz Construction and Architecture Incorporated. We will also receive field reports every two weeks on the progress of the addition, as well as schedules for continued progress,” Field said.

Jorgensen and Field are starting to see progress on parts of the addition.

“The remodeling of the kitchen and cafetorium will be completed prior to the start of the 24-25 school year. The new tennis courts are scheduled for completion by the end of September,” he said.

With more work to continue after his contract date, Field plans to offer the next Superintendent the same communicative transition that he received with Dr. Chad Conaway.

“Dr. Conaway was extremely helpful with coordinating meetings with the Admin Team and Directors so I was able to meet everyone before starting and I will also provide that assistance and support so they will be informed about the goals and items being worked on at present time and in the future,” Field said.

Field wants to continue with the efforts being made in student achievement in Lennox.

“The District offers a wide range of academic and co-curricular programs to meet the diverse needs of our students, to help them succeed and enjoy school. Our students continue to perform above the state and national averages on state and national achievement tests,” he said.

Field hopes to promote positive relationships throughout the building as well.

“My priority will be to make connections and build positive relationships with the school board, admin team, staff, students, parents, and community by being visible and through mutual trust and respect for one another. We will strive to provide a positive environment in which all children can and will succeed,” Field said.

The first day of school for students in the Lennox School District is Wednesday, Aug. 21. An open house will be held Monday, Aug. 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at each school district building: Lennox Elementary, Worthing Elementary, Lennox Intermediate, Lennox Junior High and Lennox High School. This is an opportunity for students to come meet their teacher, see their classroom, and bring school supplies.
