CHS will be holding their grand opening luncheon to celebrate the opening of the new state-of-the-art grain shuttle facility in Worthing, SD, 47014 SD Hwy 44.
The Open House will be held on Tuesday, March 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch served. A ribbon cutting will be held at 1 p.m.Â
Construction has been ongoing at this facility since In September 2023. From August 16-21, 2024, construction crews built the 140-foot elevator slip. In January of 2025 the CHS Worthing facility reached a milestone. They had three farmer-owners and their families help with the facility’s first loads.Â
Jonathan Hagena, local producer board member, along with his father and two sons were one of the first loads through the elevator. Jonathan had his sons assisted with the load, which could be the next generation farmers that this elevator serves. Â
Brad and Teresa Smidt also helped with bringing in a load that brought back many memories of Brad and his dad hauling into the old Worthing town elevator. Brad now continues the tradition hauling into the new Worthing rail terminal in memory of his dad.
The new facility is one example of how CHS is investing in agricultural infrastructure and supply chain capabilities. The CHS shuttle facility includes industry-leading technology to provide area farmers fast and efficient receiving and loadout capabilities and expanded market access to global customers.
The updated 1.1-million-bushel grain facility, built near the intersection of Interstate 20 and State Highway 44 in Southeast South Dakota, will tie into an existing rail loop and 4.2 million bushels of bunker storage already on site. The facility features the latest industry safety features and updated equipment contribute to cleaner operating conditions and create a safer environment for employees, farmers and community members.
Leaders will be available at the Open House on March 25 to discuss the Worthing facility and what it means for local farmers.
