Raising awareness for heart health

The employees at Valley Exchange Bank and Exchange Insurance celebrated National Wear Red Day February 5 to raise awareness about women and heart disease. American Heart Month is the entire month of February. Along with wearing red to work they made “Heart Laps” around Main Street. Each employee took their turn walking down Main Street to the corner of First Street and then back around to Third Street. For every lap made, Valley Exchange Bank made a donation to the Lennox Area Ambulance.

The event inspired the employees, and they decided to pose a challenge to businesses and community members. On Tuesday, Feb. 14th Valley Exchange Bank and Exchange Insurance will have another “Heart Lap” event.

On Feb. 14th there will be a heart sign up sheet in the bank lobby where people, or teams, can sign up. Jacklyn Lounsbery, Valley Exchange Bank employee said their team name was Team Beats, and she looks forward to seeing what other team names will be.

Walkers are encouraged to stop in at the bank between the hours of 9 a.m.-3 p.m., where they can make their donation to the Lennox Area Ambulance, get a red ribbon, and enjoy refreshments before or after they’ve made their “Heart Laps.”

Lounsberry said there will be hearts put on the poles to mark where the route is on Main Street. She added bank employees were able to get 13 laps in an hour.
