Worthing Days to be held this weekend


Feel like having some fun? Join in at the Worthing Days Celebration this Friday and Saturday in Worthing.

The event will kick-off with a Cruise Night and Root Beer Floats at 7 p.m. on Worthing Main Street, hosted by Masonic Lodge #141.

At 9 p.m. bring the family to the Worthing Civic Center (on Main Street) for a movie night showing of “HOME” by Dreamworks.

An entire day of fun is planned for Saturday—

The day will start with a 5K Benefit run for Kathy Steever. This event is hosted by Otis’ Bar & Grill. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race will start at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $30. Registration forms are available now at Blue Sky Junction, Otis’ Bar & Grill and Worthing City Hall.

After the race, hang around for the Worthing Days Parade. The parade route will begin at the Louise Ave. 4-way stop, go west on 280th St./Old Highway 44 to Main St., then south to 3rd St. If you would like to register an entry for the parade, e-mail: worthinglodge@gmail.com.

Family festivities will begin at 11 a.m. at the Worthing Elementary. There will be food vendors from 11 to 1 p.m. in the parking lot; vendor and craft fair at the gym from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and an all ages fun zone will be set up in the ball field from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attractions that will require purchasing a $5 wristband include: inflatables for kids, teens and adults; children’s mini-train; and kid’s water boats.

Also in the fun zone: Outdoor Campus East and the SF Community Bloodmobile. Worthing Fire Department has activities planned there as well.

At 3 p.m. the Kids’ Bike Poker Run will begin at Worthing Elementary. At the same time, a Bean Bag Tourney will be held to the south of the school. This event is hosted by the Masonic Lodge. The $30 entry fee will benefit the lodge. There will also be a 50/50 split pot. To register your eam, email: worthinglodge@gmail.com.

At 4 p.m., there will be lawnmower races at Worthing Elementary with two classes: Standard and Suped-Up.

After a bit of break, the adults will want to head to Worthing Main Street for a street dance that begins at 8 p.m. The dance will feature the “Last Call Rock Band.” Admission is $5 per person.

This is the first year that Worthing Days has been held in September. Everyone is welcome to join in on the event.
