FFA banquet celebrates 85 years

The Lennox Sundstrom FFA Chapter celebrated their 85th year at their annual banquet held Tuesday, April 28. The 272 people in attendance saw the presentation of awards, scholarships, and recognition of adult supporters. The new FFA officer team for 2015-16 was named at the conclusion of the banquet.

The banquet began with remarks from the state association’s 2014-15 President, Taylin Albrecht of DeSmet. She encouraged members to attend leadership retreats and talked about opportunities in the organization. The meal was catered by The Home Place of Parker.

Andrew Haan, Alvin and Carla Haan named honorary members

Honorary membership is given to adults who have worked hard to help the chapter accomplish its goals. This year’s honorary members are Andrew, Carla and Alvin Haan. During the installation ceremony Chapter Secretary Autumn Haan gave a short summary of each inductees accomplishments.

“Having had children in the program for most of the last 21 years, Alvin and Carla Haan have been long-time supporters of the FFA,” said Autumn. “For most of those years Alvin has donated the use of his corral panels twice a year. Once for our petting zoo and once each year for our livestock CDE. Carla has been active in the adult support group and has been especially active making BBQ for our CDE the last few years.

“Andrew Haan has really helped out the last few years with our Spring CDE.,” Autumn continued. “He has been helping haul church tables for years and the last two years he has secured the use of the Presbyterian Church for our CDE’s. Over 140 students used the church this past year for competitions, which helped lessen the crowd at the school. He is always there to help when needed and our chapter is appreciative.”
